  23. The V34 Sportster does -not- have flash rom, tho it does support 33.6
  24. and has a swell set of phone line diagnostic screens.  Since the
  25. Sportster outsells everything else in its price class by at least 5:1
  26. it's only logical that you'll read more Sportster posts than any other
  27. brand.  I suspect (from reading the complaints) that many of the people
  28. reporting problems are actually having software & setup problems. I
  29. doubt there's any functionality problems in the modem itself.  Yes, tech
  30. support of the product could stand improvement, in my opinion.

  36. Flash rom, yes, but only the controller code is flash. The DSP (data
  37. pump) is mask programmed.  Also the POWER model does not support 33.6.
  38. You need to get the Motorola Premier model to get 33.6 (and flash
  39. programmed DSP).

  46. Yes, the Supra seems to be (currently) enjoying a better than average
  47. track record.  The flash rom only contains the controller code, not the
  48. DSP and current Supras do not support 33.6.   Since the DSP code is not
  49. flash, the Supra cannot be field upgraded to 33.6.  Supra writes their
  50. own controller code to get around the issues with the Rockwell engine.

  52. Have you given any consideration to the Multi-Tech MT2834ZDX?  It uses
  53. the AT&T chipset and also has a nifty set of line diagnostic screens.
  54. It doesn't have flash rom, but Multi-Tech -does- post the rom images on
  55. their bbs and if you have access to a prom burner you can always do
  56. an easy upgrade.  Also Multi-Tech offers toll-free tech support.
